About the hotel

The Bell has been a thriving inn since the 15th century,
Thetford was once a cathedral town. Religious establishments were numerous and of great importance in the town at the time The Bell began its life as a thriving inn in the 15th century, which makes the hotel's name particularly apt. The sense of history is enhanced at The Bell by the fact that the hotel retains much of its original character. What's so special about us? There are 39 en-suite bedrooms and 7 VIP rooms. Several of the rooms have period features, including a section of the original painted plaster walls. The Bell has a substantial range of meeting and conference rooms.

The hotel is situated on the corner of King Street and Bridge Street. The hotel consists of 2 wings, the newer of which was built around the 1960's with 2 accommodation floors. The old wing is over 600 years old with rooms that are full of character and meandering corridors.

The hotel is well know locally for its functions and weddings. It is possible that a function may be taking place during your stay, however, if you contact the hotel directly we will endeavour to allocate a room as far away from it, whenever possible.

At the next set of traffic lights, turn left then first left on to Bridge Street. The hotel is just over the bridge on the right. Approaching Thetford on the A134 from Kings Lynn, take the 2nd exit at the roundabout. At the next roundabout, take the 3rd exit. Keep on this road past the Police Station and the Fire Station, through the pedestrian traffic lights and the next set of traffic lights. At the next set of traffic lights, turn left then first left on to Bridge Street. The hotel is just over the bridge on the right. Approaching Thetford on the A134 from Bury St Edmunds, take the 3rd right on to Bridge Street and the hotel is just over the bridge on the right.
